Please comment on your experiences making sound strip movies.
Did it work?
Did the stripe stay in place?
Do you project S8/R8 sound stripe movies?
Why not?
thanks

I'll admit I have absolutely no experience, but I do have a plan.
I bought a Bolex sound projector off E-bay last summer and I plan to figure out an interface between the sound card on my computer and the projector so I can record sound tracks I compose in Sound Forge.
This is going to be wild sound recorded on location, plus music, plus narration. One of my favorite films, Bill Mason's Waterwalker, has not one second of lip-sync in it and if I could make a film 1% as good I'd be happy with it.
I plan to get the film striped commercially, because I've considered the process required, and I'll feel safer with a professional doing it. I don't think this is something you'd get a second shot at.
-Wish me luck!

I'm glad there's somebody out there who doesn't limit themselves entirely to sound-synched films--crystal-synched, pilotone-synched, wild-synched, or otherwise. You can really save some money and make some really good films without holding yourself to the Great God Sound Synch. Good luck!

No response telling how it went. Hmmm. What could that mean?
It isn't worth the trouble to write about. That's bad.
Nobody does it. No, there are lots of places that do it for you.
People on this page don't do it. That's it.
I haven't. And I have a S8 sound projector that records.
Nobody here projects sound striped S8/R8 movies.

I have had several film sound striped over the years and I am about to do more soon. Never had any problem after in either heavy editing or projecting. Using a proper company for the service will make exellent results.
I think Paul? Yost is mentioned at Martin Baumgartens site. Maybe creditable?

One of the problems is that post-striping Super-8 seems to be a dying art. I keep finding people that used to do it that aren't anymore. Kodak itself used to do it and gave up some years ago.
Here is a link for Andec in Berlin: They are cheaper than Yost, but I'd have to figure in postage from the US to Germany as well.

Can anybody tell about their experiences with specific services?
mcarter4121: What's your plan? Striping it yourself or getting it done professionally?

I've only used the pre-striped film they used to sell, but I liked it and miss it...it did add another dimension to my films when I projected them...the sound isn't bad, but it's no Dolby digital either! But it does give the film that old "60 min/on the road with charles kurault" look!

There IS a striper in my collection. It was in a fire and the instructions were singed and the glue bottles cooked black and the stripe warped a little, I think it is usable with new stripe and glue. However, I do not plan on using it myself, even though it was for the home market, made by Superior Bulk Film Company. It is for educational purposes only - display.
I'll send the film to Paul Yost.
